weird pixel rigs

speaking of putting the pxl on a tripod brings up a shot i did last week.

the script called for a "dolly left" then "dolly right" as two people had a

conversation. i tried to talk the director out of it, he had all these kooky

ideas about using an office chair as a dolly (too loud, i said, but he

insisted, and of course it sounded like an avelanch of tin cans coming down

a steel mountian, so it went out). i suggested handheld, but he was adimant.

what i eventually did was suspend the pxl from the ceiling with a length of

butchers twine, tied at the lens and the eyepiece hood. i was able to do a

reasonable imitation dolly this, although the arc requires that you pull

back and then truck back in betwen subjects to keep the camera from dipping.

the result was odd enough that it looked rather interesting.
