RF->composite modification + TRI-Pod me, baby

Someone recently posted the instructions for modifying the PXL-2000 from

a single RCA RF connection to a double RCA composite signal, but I am

completely unqualified to do such surgery. Is there anyone out there that

does this with a 99% or better success rate, and if so, how much??

Also, I rigged up a way to put my PXL onto a standard tri-pod, which is

handy. It's not the securest thing, but the basic idea is to get:

- a small piece of wood, (app. 3" X 1.5" X 3/8")

- a 1/4" (mine is 1/4 X 5/16 or 6.3 X 7.9 [metric?] tee nut,

- a 1" two hole strap

- 2 small screws and nuts

I drilled a 1/4" hole in the center of the wood, then drove the tee nut

into the hole. The tee nut has little metal spikes which drive into the

wood to hold the tee nut in place. It also has 1/4" thread, which allows

the tri-pod bolt to screw into it.

I then drilled a couple holes on the edges to put the screws through,

which attach to the two hole strap.(Found in the electrical/plumbing

section, looks kinda lika clamp) Then put the two hole strap around the

handle directly under the record button.

Attach the piece of wood with the 1/4" thread and you

can put it on a tri-pod. The two hole strap is around the inside,

directly under the record button. The wood connects to the two hole strap

and is underneath the camera, next to the four battery compartment.

Problems: - I didn't put a piece of rubber around the plastic before

doing this, so it maybe got a little scratched, but no biggie.

-Not the most stable of things.

-The tee nut has fallen out a couple times, but I just hammer it back in

and it's still working.

-You now have a piece of wook sticking out from the bottom of your PXL,

but I got used to it, especially for the convenience of being able to use

a standard tri-pod.

-The first one I made broke when I hammered the tee nut in.

-The 1" two hole strap isn't the best fit, so you need to bend it a bit

to work and your screws won't tighten all the way.

I got the tee nuts and two hole strap at Builder's Square, and they only

had them in bags of four, so technically, if this one breaks, I can make

another fairly easily.

sorry if you can't picture this in your mind, I can't draw it either, so

we're even. this was all some guy's idea in the hardware store, to avoid

having to drill into the unit, etc. If you have a better idea, I'd love

to hear it. It does work, though, I've been using it often. happy filming.
