First, I want to confirm that it IS possible to kill you camera by random probing if you manage to short something you shouldn't have. Probing is normally done by touching ONLY ONE point at a time, and no accidental deaths have ever resulted from that. Second, on the subject of audio: For any kind of serious or even semi-serious production, you wouldn't want to use the on-camera microphone because it is typically too far from the sound source to pick up anything usable. Unless you want to record ambience, (walla-walla), which you can do very well with a portable cassette or mini-cassette recorder. When I am indoors I always use one or more microphones, through a small mixer (from Radio Shack) to feed into the camcorder. Most mixers have line level outputs, but you can easily convert these outputs to mike level if you ever need that. In your case, you will simply connect the line output(s) to your camcorder or VCR line input(s). Caution: model 32-1106 ($50) is not suitable (no line output) but 32-1107 ($50) is OK. You can use them together though if you need a lot of mike inputs. When the distance to the subject does not permit a wired mike, I use an AZDEN brand VHF wireless which has both mike level and earphone level outputs (connecting the earphone out to a line input is OK). <<alex kanaris>> ============================================================================== Alexander Kanaris ___ ___ kanaris@bode.usc.edu Electrical Engineering --- Systems / / /__ / kanaris@thales.usc.edu University of Southern California /__/ ___/ /__ kanaris@aludra.usc.edu Los Angeles, California 90089-2562 kanaris@alumni.caltech.edu ==============================================================================
