hi there, don't bother trying fisher price - i spent two hours on the phone talking to them a couple of months ago. yes they did have them at one time. yes, they did sell for $50. no, they don't have them anymore, and they have not had them for, literally, years. trust me, i really scoured the company using as many tricks as i possibly could. depending on who you believe as your source, between 400,000-500,000 were made over a production schedule of two years. they stopped making them close to ten years ago, don't take abuse well, and have a few parts that are very wear prone (that's what you get from pulling a cassette mechanism at 9x normal speed), so they're pretty rare. mtv director types snapping them up certainly isn't helping the situation... on a related note, gerry failka was in san francisco this last weekend for his "best of pxl this" festival (for more info on this festival, take a look at kyle's web page) and said at the end of showing that he would accept "faked" pxl videos for future festivals. doing a rough digitizer with lots of drop outs in something like premier/photo shop, etc. wouldn't be *that* hard. certainly not as tough as finding a cheap pxl... also there seems to be growing interest in the tyco kid cam (for those of you not already on it - this is NOT pixilated - think "7-11 shoplifter camera"), and gerry implied that he'd accept films in this format for pxl-this as well. it's nice to see so much activity on this list, although i'd appreciate it if folks with snappy one-liners (i.e. "pxl 2000 for sale for $30,000") could keep the clutter down. more as it happens, m. *** <<I bought mine reconditioned from Fisher Price a couple of years ago, and I can't believe how much they are selling for now. It's funny. If I had known, I would have got a couple! anyway maybe they still do it? I doubt it. Maybe they have some lying around at the factory... -Ricardo Sheets >>
